This depends on the event. Our Journal Club Café events are BYO craft based. We do provide a craft table with magazines, stickers etc., but for the most part it is bring your own and share with each other!
We also organize workshops with specific themes. These workshops are all materials included.
-
Yes of course, most people do!
De Journal Club is designed to be an easy way to meet people without awkward networking. You’ll naturally end up in small conversations!
-
We do prefer to start together but have a loose structure for the most part.
Workshops with a specific theme have a more structured plan so it’s best to come on time for those.
-
All events are created with a lot of care and attention, often including extra goodies and materials.
To cover this time, materials, and energy, we ask for a small contribution. We want to keep Journal Club accessible to everyone! If you’re able to contribute a bit more so someone else can join at a lower price, we really appreciate it — sharing is caring <3

We want de Journal Club to be accessible to everyone. If you’d love to join but money is tight, feel free to send us an email. We’re happy to think along with you and can reserve a spot for you.

Journaling is expressing yourself through creativity and reflection. Some people write, some people scrapbook, some people do something in between.
De Journal Club is a free creative space where crafting and writing in all forms are encouraged!
-
You don’t need any creative experience at all.
De Journal Club is not an art class. We’re all about expressing ideas, reflecting, and making something simple. Stick figures, messy collages, half-finished thoughts: all is welcome.
-
No. Sharing is always optional.
You can just come, make something, and enjoy the atmosphere.
-
That’s completely okay. De Journal Club is designed to be a low-pressure, welcoming space.
You’re free to participate at your own pace, whether that means joining conversations, quietly working on your own, or simply taking in the atmosphere. There’s no pressure to share or perform.
-
De Journal Club events are often documented for social media and other purposes.
If you’re attending an event and prefer not to be photographed or filmed, please let the organizers know at the start of the event.
-
Most sessions are in Dutch, depending on the group.
We usually have a mix of a Dutch and international crowd, so don’t worry if Dutch isn’t your first language!
-
If we’re in a café, we kindly ask you to order a drink or something small.
This helps us keep using these spaces 💛
-
We try to host our events in venues that are wheelchair accessible whenever possible. If a location is not fully accessible, we will always mention this clearly in advance.
If you have specific access needs, feel free to reach out — we’re happy to help and see what’s possible.
-
No, but it can feel reflective.
We sometimes touch on personal or thoughtful topics, but it’s always light, optional, and not facilitated as therapy.
-
Absolutely!
Journal Club is available for tailored workshops. For example:
Bachelorette parties
Team-building sessions
Facilitated content-driven sessions
Each workshop is unique, but always includes elements of reflection through guided prompts, creativity through collage-making, and collaboration.
